Demystifying Songwriting Through Color
Instructor: Colin Reid Babcock
Description: In this workshop we will explore songwriting through a color-coding system in order to break songs down into their base components. Using this method we will reverse engineer songs in order to better understand what makes a song and how we can apply what we’ve learned in order to write new songs. As a group we will listen to music, define, color, and label different parts of songs, create a framework for a new song as a group, and begin collaboratively writing a song as a group using our new found understanding of song form through colorful analysis.

1) Envelope Book Making – Discover how you can turn a simple pack of envelopes into a personalized book! Your new hand-made journal will become your new favorite place to write notes, draw and collage, and store important momentos in the many pockets already built in!
2) Introduction to Junk Journaling – We’ll kick off your introduction to a new creative practice. Junk journaling is using found things and items like wrappers, printed napkins, box labels, fruit stickers, old papers, vintage ephemera, stickers and more to create collage layouts in a notebook or handmade journal Bring your own journal or purchase one from our craft thrift store to use in the class and continue into the future. Tie Dye Your Dreams with Color
Instructor: Chloe Kimball
Description: Come and learn to tie dye with Chloe at The Why? studio. We will go over the different tie dye methods and dye techniques. Blank shirts and dye will be provided but you can also bring your own things from home that you would like to dye. We will be working with Rit dye so make sure if you bring any items that they are made of mostly cotton! You will take your items home with you at the end of class in a plastic bag so that you can let the dye rest for a day and then wash. Get ready to brighten up your wardrobe!
Welding 101
Instructor: Holly Mistur
Description: A 4 hour class where students learn the very basics of welding and build a very simple scrap metal animal. There will be 2-3 choices people will have to choose from all being about 5”-7” tall and require about 10-20 tack welds. Some parts will be premade by me ( ex: bird feet, wings, whiskers, etc )
Chasing and Repousse’ Workshop at Black Dog Forge

Description: Please sign up for a really awesome day of playing with wee hammers, tiny chisels, and really good people. After a short lesson and intro to materials you’ll have a chance to create beautiful pieces of sculpted copper (or other material, if you choose). We have watched hundreds of students create really nice works with little or no metals background. Every thing you will need to create, and be safe, will be provide. We are reasonably sure you’ll have new friends and very sure you’ll have sweet memories.
Tool and Knife Sharpening for Artists and Makers

Description: Anyone who’s worked in a professional woodshop or kitchen knows the adage “a dull knife is a dangerous knife” so let’s help makers make safely! In a straight forward, one day workshop, come learn about the science of sharpness and get guided instruction on sharpening. Bring a tool or knife you already have and use (bring a few different options just in case) and together we will explore different options and methods of sharpening. You will be provided with the necessary materials for basic sharpening, and ample time to practice and hone your skills. This will help you become a safer and more efficient creator of your ideas and also empower you to restore and use existing or vintage tools, saving both money and resources.

Circle Singing & Vocal Improvisation
Instructor: Debby Boland Watt, MFA-IA, BM
Description: We take off SINGING! This Circle Singing choir uses all your previous vocal skills and experience. Debby gives each choral part, building the piece as she goes. Free form and spontaneous, these beautifully complex pieces use layered rhythm and melodic patterns, call and response, vocal percussion and free improvisation. Students can then choose to enter the center of our circle for further development by adding solos, creating duets or restructuring the circle completely.
