Wiggle Room

Instructors: Janelle R Abbott and Alyza DelPan-Monley

For this 2 hour workshop, participants will be a part of the process and methods behind Wiggle Room – an iterative dance fashion show trying to conceptualize and grapple with our personal relationship to the global scale fast-fashion waste industry.

For this workshop, you are invited to bring a garment or some fabric scraps that you no longer use, that you are willing to donate to the project. Using these scraps and old garments provided by the facilitators, participants will learn to weave on small personal cardboard looms, as well as using a larger communal loom. Using movement and dance scores, participants will explore how the fabric moves and discover how we can navigate the tension and constraints and possibilities of the garments, to play in the Wiggle Room.

What to bring:

• any garments or fabric scraps you are ready to get rid of (clean or recently washed)
• clothing that you feel comfortable moving in
